Welcome to this blog post about skin.
Maybe you reading this already know this, but did you know that your skin is the largest organ on your entire body. That still blows me away. It blows me away in the sense that I have neglected it so bad fo many years. It is a strong reminder and promise to myself to start better, start today, start now. Take care of what I have from here on out.
Yes we perhaps should do at least 10000 steps a day, drink at least 2 liters of water, meditate, journal and so forth. All that are wonderful habits but habits are in a way pieces to a puzzle. The goal is to have an overall complete picture of what wellness means to us as a whole. And believe it or not, having healthy skin is one of the pieces to that puzzle.
They say our brains are like sponges, what you feed it, it will adapt to. The same goes for our skins. What you nourish it with, will reflect that. If you care for your skin, it will show. If you are stressed, it will be seen. If you ignore, it will be obvious. By this, I mean physically and emotionally. We feel at best when we feel good both inside and out.
Our skin is like a sponge. We absord. The three main layers are the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous.
The epidermis is the outer layer of our skin, it is thin but tough and it is waterproof. It is funny to think that our skin is waterproof, like we have some kind of superpower. The stratum corneum (the outermost area of the epidermis) helps us to prevent the majority of viruses, bacteria and other pontentially harmful foreign substances entering our bodies. Even melanocytes (producers of our skins pigmentation) help our skin and body against harmful UV radiation.
The inner layer of our skin is called dermis. This layer is very thick which elastic and fibrous tissues. These tissues consist of mainly collagen, elastin and fibrillin. All these tissues are what give us strength and flexibility in our skin.
The fat layer also known as the subcutaneous layer. Here is where you find the root of hair follicles. In addition this layer helps insulate the body from cold and heat. The connective tissues and fats protect the body with padding and even store the body´s energy.
Do you see how important our skin is? It protects us from bacteria, UV radiation, harmful substances etc. It regulates our body´s temperature and it is waterproof. It repairs itself. It deserves to be treated well back.
If you read all this, I hope you understand how much we need our skin. And I hope I have convinced you to start taking care of your skin now (if you don´t already).
Start now.
If you take care of your skin, it will take care of you.
Thank you again for reading this blog and supporting our vision at KHIVANA.
You´re a real one.
Love, Kristina xo
